Down below you can see what features and improvements are planned for Kingdom Builders.

Big Game, Small Team

We are currently a small team of 4 members, so it might take a while until big new updates are finished.

If many players join our Early Access, we can add more members and increase our development speed!

Agile Roadmap

We have a clear vision for Kingdom Builders, but instead of having pre-defined roadmap that specifies every detail for the next 2 years we use an agile roadmap.

This allows us to adjust the roadmap to the players' feedback and ideas

Settings menu

In the alpha version, the game directly starts in fullscreen with 1920x1080 resolution. We want to add a proper settings menu, where you can adjust resolution settings.

Tree respawns & forester hut

new feature

In Kingdom Builders alpha version there is only a finite amount of trees. We want to change this: When you cut down trees, new tree saplings will spawn and grow.
We also add a forester hut - a building that automates cutting down trees.

Combat AI improvements

Wheat and Bread

new feature

We want to add wheat fields, wind mills and a bakery as an advanced alternative to berry farms for providing food for your settlement

Plantable trees & bushes

new feature

To make it easier to manage tree and berry growth, we changed the grow mechanic so that trees and bushes drop seeds/saplings that you can replant manually if you like. This way you can even use trees and bushes creatively in your settlement.

Combat Improvements

We would like to make the combat system more fun! Overhauling timings, giving enemies a view cone, so you can attack them from behind, making it possible to interrupt enemy attacks are things we consider to do. Stay tuned...

Companion AI & inventory improvements

It's sometimes difficult to get companions to do what players intend to. We are currently exploring ideas to make it easier to manage the party inventory and improve how companions interact with the player.

Customizable heraldry

You'll be able to chose your kingdom colors, design your own coat of arms. These will be visible on flags, banners, weapons & shields in the game.

Character customization

The player character is currently randomly selected from a number of options. Instead, we'd like to make a character creator where you can fully customize and name your character as a player.

Achievements (part 1)

Something that many players are requesting are Steam achievements. We have some ideas for basic achievements. However, with growing content, we'll have to continuously update the list of achievements.

Villager pathfinding

improvement

As many players mentioned, villagers often block each other in a settlement. This can be very annoying, especially since it can lead to automatic productions stopping, like food carriers. We want to improve the AI that this doesn't happen anymore.

XP and Level up system

We want to make it possible to level up character attributes for the player as well as the villagers

Dungeons (part 1)

new feature

Fight new enemies in the dungeon, level-up your characters to be able to reach lower and lower floors in the dungeon, which is procedurally generated: Every player will experience a different dungeon.

Food overhaul

Currently the city center also incorporates the "kitchen" - we want to make 2 separate buildings for that. The system how food is consumed and how it affects the villagers' happiness is a bit weird - we want to find a better design for these systems.

Research mechanic: Inventor's Shed

new feature

Several players suggested a research mechanic, where you gradually unlock more and more building types by reaching certain milestones. We want to add the Inventor's shed for this! A building, where a smart inventor villager can research new buildings if you bring him the right materials.

Food Consumption Simulation

new feature

In order to make the village feel more alive, we are planning to have villagers walk to food storages to consume food instead of teleporting it into their stomachs. This is part of a larger plan to get to a more realistic daily life for villagers.

Path Construction

Various path types to make your village look nicer: dirt & gravel, wooden and stone slabs, as well as wooden and stone tiles. Long term we plan to make villagers walk faster on these paths but this update will only include the cosmetics for now.

Map expansion (part 1)

Our map is quite small and limited at the moment. We want to expand it and add exciting POIs

Dungeons (part 2)

Adding dungeons to the game was a lot of effort and we wanted to share the results early. This second part will focus on combat rewards and visual improvements

Online coop multiplayer

We'd like to add online coop after having added offline coop. Again, this is technically quite complex, so we don't have a specific plan for it at the moment.
